Hello! My name is Jiva Jimmons, I am student at Chapman University in Orange, California. I am currently pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Education with a minor in Organismal Biology and Leadership & Organizational Studies. I am part of the MACI 4 + 1 program, which allows me to give me the opportunity to complete my master’s degree in Education and receive my teaching credential after my undergraduate studies.

I am very passionate about working with children with Autism and I strive to receive my Education Specialist Instruction credential, to further my teaching career. My previous experience as an ABA therapist with the company, Easterseals has given me invaluable skills and knowledge as I work hands-on with children to develop their social and motor skills. It has made me more determined to help these kids grow into independent beings as I worked with them in many different functional settings. Given my passion in Science, I currently work with the company, Sports for Learning, where STEM topics (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) are incorporated in sports, mainly soccer and basketball. This has allowed me to teach in a different way from the traditional classroom setting. It also incorporates my love and skills for soccer.

I am passionate about Sports for Learning because it illustrates my philosophy on teaching. I believe that education is ever evolving and the traditional rote memorization and students sitting at desk are not as engaging for students. I believe I can learn from students as much as they can learn from me. Giving students a voice in the classroom and collaborating with me as the teacher and their peers promotes community within the class. New ways to present information and learn form one another are being created. As an educator, I believe it is my job to evolve with these ideas and keep an open-mind to promote creativity between my students and I. I think the most important thing as an educator is communication without it there is no way for changes to be made, which does not allow us to move forward to better the education community.

Please contact me at my email, jimmo100@mail.chapman.edu or through my twitter link below (@J_Jimmons). I believe as new technology is emerging the ability to spread information is rapid and instant. Using Twitter allows me to connect with individuals that I might never come in contact without. We, as educators, have only skimmed the surface of Twitter's potential on impacting our community
