For most of my life, i've never really had any direction or goals. I was the stereotypical boy, who dreamed of being a footballer, and spent most of my childhood and teenage years expressing my inner self, by playing football and making gravity defying dens, and never really focusing upon the future.
To be quite honest, I'm still the same boy, part of me still dreams in the impossible. But, the one thing that has changed is my attitude towards life, meaning that I now have a direction in which I want to go, and after many years of searching i've found a career path which I believe suits me perfectly. This career path is Engineering.
Ever since I was a child i've always enjoyed problem solving, even now I enjoy taking part in tasks which test my mental abilty. This is also the case with physical activities, I have always been the same, in the way in which my mind craves a new fix, something which challenges me, preferably in as many ways possible.
After months of tough deadlines and constant stress due to A-level exams, I stumbled across Engineering, after a long discussion with a close relative who has been working as an engineer for years. Since then I've made myself small goals and achievable milestones in which I want to conquer. All of these things I believe will help me to have the best chance of following my ideal career path in Engineering.
Over the next year, I aim to gain as much experience into as many areas of engineering possible. I am currently rebuilding engines on ride-on mowers with my grandad, who's a retired mechanic. He teaches me things from his experience which I believe can't be taught through a textbook, which leads me on to my next point, experience.
This is partially the reason for my leaving sixth form, the main reason being that I wished to start an engineering course, but the underlying reason being that they just didn't provide enough life experience. Meaning that, yes, I would have achieved high level qualifications, but they weren't enough, I believe that aquiring these qualifications dont actually prepare people for the outside world, and by doing this course, and gaining as much work experience as possible over the up coming years, as welll as achieving high level qualifications, I can achieve my goals, and follow the career path that I believe suits me perfectly.
