Jackie Kline
Ask my students what they know about Ms. Kline and they'll probably tell you a few things: my favorite stores are Target, Barnes & Noble, and Staples; if I use you for a joke in class, take it as a compliment because I'll only dish it out if I think you can take it; and I REALLY REALLY love SSR Fridays :). I teach 9th grade English and Public Speaking (11th & 12th grade) at Avon Grove High School. I also spent a few years coaching cheerleading and softball, so I am very involved at our school. SSR Fridays and indeed my favorite part of the week, but I love Reading Minute Wednesdays which are presentations where the students lead a discussion about a novel, news article, song lyrics, etc. Not only do I get to learn about my students on a personal level because of this, but I get to hear about some great books in the process. Independent reading is a gateway for my students' future success and I am committed to fostering this in my classroom. Most importantly though, I am a huge proponent of incorporating technology into the classroom. Digital literacy is changing the landscape of education and I feel it is my duty as an educator to teach my students how to adapt to our quickly changing world. All of my classes use a wiki and a blog, but I am interesting in learning how to make them authors in this digital space. I want to spend this year teaching more about the craft of writing (especially with Public Speaking).
