Jackie Otero

Jackie Otero is a music business educator and consultant in Orlando, Florida. With a B.A. from Yale University and an M.A. in Music Business from New York University, Jackie Otero began her career in San Francisco, promoting and developing local Bay Area artists. Otero has since worked with artists including Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Virgins, Aimee Mann, Suzanne Vega, and Young Love, and has held positions in San Francisco with T.O. Management and in New York City with Marathon Management and Michael Hausman Artist Management. Her thesis on artist inequities in the music industry led her to co-found management and licensing company Front Burner Music, which held a roster of 15 clients ranging from Speech of Arrested Development fame to the UK’s Ellie Lawson, formerly of Atlantic Records. Otero has also been involved in judging the BritBus Tour unsigned UK band competition and consulting for eMusic in international business development, in addition to producing artist showcases at festivals and conferences such as CMJ Music Marathon (New York) and Mission Creek Music Festival (San Francisco). She serves as the Department Chair of the Music Business Bachelor’s degree program at Full Sail University and writes an “Industry Insider” column for alternative music publication TheComet.com, founded by the former editor of Billboard.
