Jonathan Jackson
Civil War Historian & Author, Literary Speaker, and Civil War reenactments in United States
Dr. Jonathan M. Jackson is a Civil War historian and author of I Rode with Morgan
— a firsthand narrative history of John Hunt Morgan's legendary Raiders during the
American Civil War, now in its 20th anniversary edition.
What sets Dr. Jackson apart from other Civil War authors is his direct
ancestral connection to the story he tells. He is a documented descendant
of Morgan's Raiders and a proud member of the Morgan's Men Association,
the preservation society dedicated to honoring the legacy of John Hunt
Morgan's command.
His lineage extends even further — he is also descended from the Knights of the
Garter, ending with Sir John Jackson before the American Revolution — a heritage
that brings rare depth and authenticity to his work as a historian.
Based in central Ohio, Dr. Jackson is available for speaking engagements at Civil
War roundtables, historical societies, university lecture series, public libraries,
living history events, and heritage conferences across Ohio and the surrounding region.
His presentations bring Morgan's Raiders to life through the lens of a descendant
who has spent a lifetime immersed in the history, the people, and the legacy of one
of the Civil War's most daring cavalry commanders.
