Fate brought Buddy and I together one day after school when I was eight years old. When I first saw Buddy, he ran over to me and sat on my shoe, and from that point on, Buddy and I have been best friends. Ever since Buddy became a part of my family, I have taken him to do all the things he likes to do as much as I can. Buddy loves to go on car rides, go on walks, go to the lake, and go to the golf course to run around, and I am always happy to take him. I do everything for Buddy. I bathe him, feed him, and take him to go to the bathroom every day. If I ever sleep past the time when Buddy eats in the morning, he comes to my room to wake me up, and, unfortunately, Buddy eats around 7 in the morning.
Buddy has not always had an easy life though. My family rescued Buddy from the dog shelter as a puppy. Since then, Buddy has had a couple close calls with death. Buddy has survived being severely sick and dehydrated on two occasions, and both times the doctors did not think that he would live. Buddy once ate a whole dove that became lodged in his throat, and then he passed out. I found Buddy, and had to reach down his throat and pull the bird out so he could breath again. Recently, Buddy was diagnosed with colon cancer, and the doctors projected that he would only live about a month or two longer. Although I am crushed by the fact that I may soon lose my best friend, I am grateful for the time I have spent with Buddy, and I will make the best of what time we have left together.
