Since 2009, Jacobo Lacs has functioned as the director of Puerto Lindo, Panama’s Zoologico del Istmo. The zoo specializes in breeding projects that focus on animals ranging from rare birds to primates and other mammals. Jacobo Lacs’ professional involvement with animals dates back to 1988 when he joined the board of directors for the Peregrine Fund in Boise, Idaho. Prior to entering into his position with the Zoologico del Istmo, he acted as chairman of the board for Perfumerias Unidas in Lima, Peru, and as a member of the Department of Inrenare, which governs fish and wildlife activities throughout Panama.

Outside of his work as the director of Zoologico del Istmo, Lacs supports a variety of charities, including numerous organizations that support hospitals throughout the country. He also engages with a number of animal friendly organizations, such as Club Canino de Panama and Sumitsu. In the past he has collaborated with the Wolf Creek Charitable Foundation and the Dallas World Aquarium.
