Student in Athens, Georgia
Hello, I’m Jacy, and I'm from Homer, Georgia – just North of Athens. One thing that's rather unique and interesting about me is that I'm currently a dual enrollment student here at the University of Georgia, so I attend on a part-time basis and currently don't live on campus like many other traditional students tend to do.
Growing up in a rural, small town, it often felt like there were not as many opportunities available to my peers and I as there seemed to be in more populated and resourced areas. Specifically, in a small town like mine, it appeared that there were notably many limitations related to education. It was pretty rare to hear of many people from my high school going to UGA, so I often questioned if I would be able to get-in myself.
However, all roads lead to home – quite literally. Though Athens is undoubtedly considered an urban area and “classic city”, it’s surrounded by small towns and farmland, including my own hometown. When I found out that I was eligible to apply to dual enroll at UGA at age sixteen, I immediately applied, and since then, the education I’ve experienced here has instilled within me a newfound sense of optimism and hope for the future.
My upbringing and hometown surroundings have led me to greatly appreciate the education available at the University of Georgia, and I look forward to continuing my education here full-time over the next four years and hopefully longer as I aspire to eventually go to law school.
