Jake currently serves as a Social Studies teacher at the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice in Bon Air. After beginning this position, he introduced classroom management strategies that reduced disruptions and promoted a steady learning environment. His lesson planning reflects the different academic needs of his students.

He began his career as a K-12 substitute teacher in a Virginia county public school system. For more than three years, he implemented classroom plans, reinforced key concepts, maintained daily discipline, and traveled to 10-plus schools across the county as required. He later took on the role of New Teacher Co-Coordinator for the district, where he organized and led orientation sessions, conducted monthly meetings, and mentored first-year teachers both in and out of the classroom.

He then taught Social Studies in the same county for nine years. He worked to build classrooms grounded in respect and communication, and to design lessons that encouraged students to observe, question, and explore social studies topics. Luginbuhl differentiated instruction to support learners at varying levels.

In addition to teaching, he served as a class sponsor, an assistant wrestling coach for two years, a BETA club co-sponsor, a DECA club advisor and judge, a robotics team coach, and an emcee. He was recognized as Teacher of the Month in November 2016 and May 2019 and helped establish a Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter at his school.

From 2021-2025, he sponsored a girl in Thailand and organized a disc golf fundraiser in October 2025. He also volunteered in a community Living Nativity event. Jake Luginbuhl earned a Bachelor of Arts in History, completed his Postbaccalaureate Teacher Licensure in Education, and attended a professional institute in Williamsburg that has trained over 34,500 educators.
