I’m grateful. There are times in my life where I can indistinctly recognize the learning and growth I’ve seen in myself. Currently, I’m 23 years old and have had countless opportunities to better myself as an individual and contribute to the communities around me. My next step is to attend graduate school at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, working to get my Masters Degree in Higher Education Administration. I want to use Higher Education as a medium for service learning and student leadership. I was lucky enough to travel to Cambodia and work in collaboration with Water For Cambodia to bring clean water to families in need. My experience working with Non-Profit Organizations and NGOs has inspired me to do more. If time is the greatest gift that you can give someone, then I want to give mine to service. I will continue to look for opportunities to better myself and learn more about how to engage and help my community. I’m not naïve, and I’m certainly not impatient. The journey, the hurdles, the moments of questioning that define our purpose is what I love most. The self-discovery is what I want to empower students to take on. We as people are complacent with remaining resistant to change. Well here it is, head on. Change is all around us, we can adapt, and we can make waves. This opportunity is ours for the taking and it is ours to share. I believe in Social Justice for everyone, I believe in the power of diversity and culture, and I believe in people period. Embracing this notion has been eye opening, and truly something I hope to impart on those I share my life with. I have a mantra I try to live and remember; be afraid, be vulnerable, but never give up on what you love.
