Hi there! My name is Jake Groover, I’m from Macon, Georgia, and I am absolutely obsessed with the world of sportscasting.

I started watching sports - mainly college football - at around 8 years old, and I immediately fell in love with them. Something about all of the statistics and strategy really captivated me, and I began to follow Georgia football especially closely. I would research the team and I knew all of the players down to even the 5th and 6th strings. Eventually, my horizons expanded to the professional sports world as well, with the Falcons, Hawks, Braves, and Atlanta United being my favorite teams. I was still obsessed with the stats and the ins and outs of my favorite teams, but then I saw a YouTube video that sparked a new passion - sports broadcasting.

I was about 12 years old. It was a 30 minute video of the greatest most memorable moments in sports history, and by the end I had goosebumps. The moments by themselves were great, sure, but the commentary to go with them made them perfect. I was absolutely enthralled. From Al Michaels’ call of the “Miracle on Ice,” to Verne Lundquist’s iconic call of Tiger Woods’ 16th hole, to the legendary call of the “Kick Six,” I was captivated listening to the masters of the sports commentary craft.

The video instilled a feeling in me that maybe - just maybe - I’d be really happy trying to follow in the footsteps of some of the greats. I still don’t fully know what I want do in my life, but that unshakeable thought of being able to capture a moment like those still sits on its perch in the back of my mind.

Maybe one day that thought will be a reality.
