Jake Petrasch, fully named Jake John Garrit Petrasch Jr., is the proud owner of Valley Anglers, located in Vermont's Mad River Valley. This esteemed fly fishing guide service provides not only guided fishing adventures but also a rich assortment of fishing equipment, from rods and reels to wading gear and various carrying accessories. His extensive experience spans over 20 years in education, property management, site coordination, and, naturally, fly fishing. In addition to his professional pursuits, he enjoys a variety of hobbies, including surfing, skateboarding, biking, hunting, and both salt and freshwater fly fishing.
He completed his undergraduate studies in fine arts at St Lawrence University in 2001. He went on to earn a Master's in Education at Johnson State College in 2007, specializing in middle-level Education. His academic journey also includes coursework at the National Outdoor Leadership School, where he received college credits from the University of Utah.
Jake's career has been diverse, with roles such as teacher, site coordinator, and property manager contributing to his well-rounded skill set. In 2005, he founded Valley Anglers LLC in Warren, VT, combining his passion for teaching with his enthusiasm for fly fishing. Here, he educates clients on various aspects of the sport, including casting techniques, entomology, and knot tying.
In 2010, he joined the Counseling Services of Addison County as an Alternative Program Head Teacher/Behavior Specialist, focusing on high school-aged students who were outside the traditional school system. He continued his educational endeavors as a paraeducator at Harwood Union High School in Duxbury, VT, where he initiated the Call Back academic support program. Later, he became a site coordinator at Montpelier High School, managing the school's Outing Club and co-teaching a CrossFit program.
Since 2018, Jake has been with Integrated Property Services LLC in Warren, VT, overseeing property management and maintenance for numerous residences in the area.
Born on July 20, 1977, in Fort Worth, Texas, and adopted shortly after that, Jake spent many childhood summers in Nantucket, where he first cultivated his love for outdoor sports. It was during his studies at St. Lawrence University that he met his wife. The couple married in 2005 in Stowe, Vermont.
