psychotherapist, Professor, and Coach in Houston, TX
Hello, I’m Jake. I’m a psychotherapist, coach, and counseling professor living in Houston, TX. My research and practice focus on the integration of attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, spirituality, and change processes. In other words, I am all about creating real growth of the whole person by helping people choose connection.
In 2017, I started Daring Ventures Counseling, Coaching, and Consultation, LLC, a boutique private practice offering customized treatment to individuals and couples effected by process addictions—especially sexual addiction or problematic gambling—and the resulting betrayal trauma experienced by many partners of addicts. As a therapist, I specialize in working with couples in distress as a result of trauma and addiction. Many of my clients travel to my clinic from around the country for intensive treatment experiences ranging from three to five days.
My work as a coach extends to professional leaders who are seeking to grow their own capacities for leadership and transformation. I especially enjoy coaching other counselors and coaches who desire to extend their influence.
I'm also Assistant Professor of Counseling and Director of the Doctor of Professional Counseling Program at Houston Graduate School of the Theology. I am passionate about training up the next generation of professional counselors to be powerful agents of change in the world.
Personally, I'm a native Texan who loves the City of Houston. I'm married to Kristen, and together we enjoy our Australian Labradoodle, Clive. I enjoy serving at my local church, finding good food, and listening to quality live music.
