James Barber

I began my journalistic career at 17 writing for the likes of The Independent, The Times, and The BBC. For me writing was a passion which gave me the freedom to express myself and a space in which to channel my creativity.

As a hypnotherapist and counsellor in training I am skilled in helping people to open up and in exploring complex emotions and feelings which might otherwise go unexpressed.

I have found that this desire to explore the vast world of feelings and emotions has had a profound impact on my journalistic career. At present I am currently working as a freelance writer contributing articles to magazines such as called Mind, Body, Spirit.

Whoever I am interviewing, or whatever it is I am writing about I always aim to go to the heart of the subject so I can reveal and express something that speaks to people on a deeper and more intimate level.

Combining my therapeutic and journalistic skills I am great at not only interviewing people, but connecting with them in a way where they feel safe and comfortable in talking about deeply sensitive and personal issues. I believe that I am able to do this because I am great listener not only to what people are saying but the energy behind what they are saying.

I believe that curiousity and an intrinsic desire to understand the inner workings of life is a central part of my work as a writer.

I am based in London, and I am available for freelance work. If you would like to see some of my work, just ask.
