James Joyce – JJ – has been in the broadcast business since 1973 and celebrates 28 years at KUVO in January of 2016, as Saturday morning host for Breakfast Jazz.
JJ graduated from Manual High after being a member of the 1971 State Champion Track team, running the Mile Relay. In the US Navy, JJ was a demolitions expert and served in Vietnam. He was very happy when offered the opportunity to be a part of the Armed Forces Radio and Television Services in Western Australia.
Back in the day, JJ was a member of the band Dr. Lover and the Soulful Interns. His music collection includes 7,000 LPs, 5,000 CDs and several hundred 78s. He loves all kinds of music, although you can certainly hear his fondness for the smooth, funky tunes in his playlists.
JJ travels regularly to New Orleans for the Jazz and Heritage Festival, where JJ collects new music. He also makes it a point to attend a NASCAR event or two each year. And finally, with a name like James Joyce, you can’t blame the guy for showing up at the St. Patrick’s Day parade every year, where the members of the James Joyce Reading Society greet their favourite black Irishman.
