James Fox

James Michael Tyler Fox (named after famous actor Michael J. Fox) was born and raised in Salem, Virginia. It is a small, 13 square-mile town in southwest Virginia. He moved around schools a lot as a child, before graduating from Salem High School in 2011. James was a member of the swim team and track and field team, as well as the school marching band, where he played the trumpet.

While in high school, James became a member of a professional traveling music group called The Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps. As a member of "The Surf", James traveled across the continental United States, competing in high level performances for thousands of people in large venues, including the Alamo Dome, the Georgia Dome, and the Colts' Lucas Oil Stadium, the home of Superbowl XLVI.

James is a working musician that makes a part of his income by playing his favorite instrument, the trumpet. However, he also does many free performances voluntarily, including the National Anthem at many professional sporting events, such as the AA Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. James has also played the Anthem for many collegiate level events on the campuses of schools such as Roanoke College, Shenandoah University, and his national television debut for the NCAA Division III National Football Championship on ESPN in 2009.

On October 18, 2011, James enlisted in the United States Army following many of his relatives that together, represent all five branches of the Armed Forces. On January 17, he shipped out to basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. While he was there, he was the leader of his platoon and graduated in the top percentile of his class as one of the top ten marksmen in his company. His training included: rifle qualification, live grenade qualification, urban assault courses, and fire team movements with live ammunition. After basic training, he attended the US Army School of Music at Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base in Virginia Beach, Virginia. After his training was complete, James regrouped with his unit, the 29th Infantry Division Army Band in Clifton Forge, Virginia.

James is currently attending Shenandoah University as a Music Production major. He is a member of the University Jazz and Wind Ensembles, including the undefeated Buzzin' Dozen Pep Band. He is also an active brother of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
