I'm a counselor educator at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (http://ced.uncg.edu/people/faculty-profiles/dr-james-m-benshoff). My areas of interest include clinical supervision, teaching in counselor education, group process and dynamics, leadership, and technology in teaching and counseling. I've also been a licensed counselor in private practice, President of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and member of the NBCC Board. In the last few years I've had opportunities to do lots of really interesting and meaningful international work in Italy, Turkey, Malaysia, Bhutan, Cuba, and sub-Saharan Africa (Botswana, Malawi, and South Africa).

I have a passion for helping doctoral students and beginning counselor educators find their own approach to effective teaching, as well as continually developing my own teaching. One exciting new area is online teaching, and even though I've been teaching online for the past 10 years, I'm constantly looking for new ways to enhance learning in that medium. In Spring 2013, I was an online teaching fellow for UNCG's new Faculty Teaching and Learning Commons (http://commons.uncg.edu). In 2013-2014, I'll be a mentoring fellow for the FTLC, working with new faculty to help them get started at UNCG and in their acedmic careers.

My son, Nicholas, is a chef who's just started his own food truck business (www.facebook.com/pages/Bandito-Burrito-Truck/383413455070874). My fiance', Amy, is an art history professor at UNCW (http://www.uncw.edu/art/about/aboutkirschke.html. I've been a lifelong musician (keyboards & vocals), and currently perform as a part of a duo in the Wilmington area.
