It is with great regret that I have to inform the SPMA and NSW Mixed Martial Arts community that earlier yesterday at around 3:30pm, James Kenny informed head coach at SPMA that he would be resigning from Professional Mixed Martial Arts immediately. As we know, James was severely injured in 2012 in a rugby match. He was tackled awkwardly and ruptured a disc which fragmented into his spinal column. We have found out today from Anthony Perosh ( head coach at SPMA ) himself that James had spoken to him asking for a withdrawal from the clubs representative MMA team as they set to take on VT1 Gym on the 29th of June. James has asked to take time off from fighting for the club and wants to spend more time with his partner in Ipswich Queensland. With his injury returning, he wants to take the opportunity to spend time with his partner while in recovery. He had planned to fly up to Queensland during the ending days of June - when SPMA was set to compete against rival club VT1 Gym for the "Battle of Eastern Suburb Supremecy". James has done an admirable thing and placed his partner and health before himself and his success, and has decided to pull himself out of the tournament due to spend time with her and to make sure he applies the time needed in order for his injury to heal. The couple have been together since the beginning of the year and according to James, his partner is the reason why he has been so successful this year. James started here at SPMA in 2003, and has been the most loyal member in the clubs 35 year history. He was one of the most talented individuals in the sport however never held a title. The young man spent countless hours helping out the younger martial artists, who found their home environments difficult and unwelcoming. James has always been known to put people before himself. He has come a long way since his darker years of '12 and '13 and has overcome his fears and monsters with his saviour Jesus Christ. I'll finish off with a quote from James, which the SPMA team can see at their gym as it's pasted up on the Wall of Honour: "When I was at my lowest point in life last year. I would get down on my hands and knees and pray to God to forgive me, to show me a sign of friendship. When all was lost in my life, I would head down here to SPMA and I would find it again, my forgiveness, my friends, my love. I thank God everyday for each and every one of you."
