James Mehi

As Director of Advanced Development for VisualSonics in Toronto, Ontario, James Mehi recently achieved his latest innovation in ultrasound research. Applying innovative system and product design, Mehi was a key contributor in the development of the Vevo2100, a 64-channel diagnostic ultrasound tool featuring linear array-based high-frequency imaging. His responsibilities involved oversight of technical design and system configuration. James Mehi continues to oversee various technical developments with the company, including advancements with Vevo2100.

James Mehi has developed a number of innovative ultrasound products over the years. He has earned a total of seven patents, dated from 1996 to 2011 and involving a variety of ultrasonic technologies. He has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, including several published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). A member of IEEE himself, Mehi benefits from the exchange of ideas that it facilitates.

Jim Mehi holds a Bachelor of Applied Sciences and a Master of Applied Sciences in Electrical Engineering, both conferred by the University of Toronto. He received his Master's degree in 1985 from the Institute of Biomedical Engineering after completing research involving ultrasound imaging of the carotid artery. Mehi entered the private sector in 1986 with a position as a Senior Research Engineer at Medasonics. He then became an Image Analysis Engineer with Acuson and subsequently worked as an engineer with ATL.

Following his years with ATL, Jim Mehi served as an engineering consultant to several companies in the United States and Canada. He began consulting at VisualSonics in 1999, when the company was still a start-up at the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto. He was named Director of Engineering two years later and was promoted to his current position in 2003.
