James Burchenal
Wealth Manager for UBS in Cincinnati, OH
James Burchenal’s career has been shaped by steady work across several industries and a practical interest in serving clients well. Based in Cincinnati, he has built experience in finance, sales, education, real estate, and construction. While these fields are different, each has helped him develop skills in communication, organization, negotiation, analysis, and business operations.
James graduated from Hampden-Sydney College with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. His studies in intermediate macroeconomic and microeconomic theory gave him a useful foundation in markets, financial systems, and decision-making. During his time in college, he also played varsity lacrosse and was a member of Sigma Chi. These experiences helped him understand teamwork, discipline, and the importance of managing responsibilities with consistency.
His early work in finance began through an investment internship at UBS Financial Services. In that position, James worked with a top institutional consulting team and helped review client accounts ranging from $1 million to over $25 million. His duties included reviewing accounts and making recommendations. This gave him exposure to portfolio strategy, risk assessment, and financial decision-making. It also helped him understand the care and attention needed when working with client accounts.
James later worked at Cincinnati Bell as an Outside Sales Manager. His role focused on finding new business, identifying untapped markets, and building customer relationships. Through his efforts, he secured approximately 50 new clients each month. This experience helped him improve his ability to communicate value, understand customer needs, and follow up with prospects and clients in a reliable way.
His professional experience also includes time in Prague, Czech Republic, where he taught English to more than 500 students weekly across multiple schools. He prepared lesson plans, worked with other teachers, and communicated with parents. Teaching in another country required patience, organization, and adaptability. It also gave him experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and adjusting his approach to each classroom's needs.
After returning to the United States, James joined Kreller Group as a professional sales representative and account manager. His responsibilities included customer acquisition, territory growth, and advising companies on credit and risk management practices. He also worked with commercial credit reports and investigations while meeting sales expectations. This position allowed him to combine client service, analysis, and business development.
In 2015, James became a licensed realtor with Comey and Shepherd. He assisted buyers and sellers with property analysis, showings, negotiations, and contracts. His real estate work included properties ranging from $50,000 to $1.2 million. He also supported client relationships through marketing materials, newsletters, and direct outreach.
In 2022, James became co-owner of Monture Construction LLC in Mariemont, Ohio. His responsibilities include overseeing projects, managing client relationships, and helping guide company operations. His background in real estate, finance, sales, and negotiation continues to support his work in construction leadership.
James has also served as a counselor with United Way’s Stepping Stones program, working with students with disabilities. Earlier, he worked as a ranch hand at Two Creek Ranch in Montana, helping manage livestock and land. Outside of work, he enjoys hockey, rock climbing, camping, fly fishing, bird hunting, traveling, and weight training.
From finance to construction, James Burchenal has continued to build on each stage of his experience, focusing on responsibility, service, and practical results.
