I was born in London to parents who were born in Indonesia and Hong Kong. After graduating from Cambridge, I started my career in Hong Kong, before moving to Beijing where I have lived since.

My first foreign assignment was the White House and my most recent was covering the disappearance of Flight MH370. I have interviewed Elton John, Winnie Mandela, Peng Liyuan, Muhammad Yunus, Aung Sang Suu Kyi, Robert Mugabe, Arianna Huffington and Diane von Furstenberg.

I am a UN Goodwill Ambassador and try to start each day by doing something for someone other than myself. I am writing my first book.
