James Coane

Pasadena, CA

James Coane holds the title of Principal Architect of James V. Coane and Associates, an architecture firm located in Pasadena, California. Most of the projects that Mr. Coane takes on are located in the southern California area, but he and his team have completed many national projects as well as projects in foreign countries. As Principal Architect, Mr. Coane oversees every stage of each project, from design development to construction observation. As a result of his work, the firm has been featured in a variety of magazines, including Architectural Digest, THE Magazine, Kitchen Trends, Arroyo Monthly, and Pasadena Magazine. Furthermore, several of the firm's constructions and renovations have been used for advertising and fashion shoots.

For each project, James Coane and his lead designers produce architectural plans based on each client's specifications. These plans take on the forms of three-dimensional models, drawings, and renderings and are presented to the client for fine tuning. Once approved, Mr. Coane and his team transform the design into a construction drawing and begin the permitting and construction cost bidding processes. The firm analyzes contractor bids for optimal results, and then members of Mr. Coane's project team oversee the building and installation of each project.

With nearly 20 years of experience working in architectural design, James Coane has taken on many custom-residence and estate-residence projects. In one recent project, he designed a beach house in the mode of California architects Raphael Soriano, Rudolph Schindler, and Richard Nuetra, using clerestory windows and floor-to-ceiling glass to fill the home with light and provide views of the ocean. In addition, he utilized post-and-beam construction, vertical cedar siding, and a rock roof to satisfy the client's request for a "cool 1950s beach house." Mr. Coane aims to work closely with his clients to fully understand and carry out their architectural visions.
