Dr. James D. Sterling has provided family and marital counseling in New York City since 1976. His Park Avenue practice, the New York Center for Psychotherapy, offers a client-focused environment in which individuals develop the necessary communication skills to improve their personal relationships. In his practice, Dr. James D. Sterling draws on his extensive training and diverse educational background to customize each client’s sessions to suit his or her individual needs.
Dr. James D. Sterling began his professional education with a bachelor of arts in social welfare from the University of California, Berkeley. He went on to receive a master of science in business from Columbia University, and both a master of arts and doctor of philosophy in psychology from the University of Chicago. In addition to his educational endeavors, he completed internships at the Chicago-Read Mental Health Center, and clinical group psychotherapy training in San Francisco and Chicago. Proficient in Spanish and German as well as English, Dr. James Sterling has also studied in Switzerland and worked at the Instituto Nacional de Neurología in Mexico.
Alongside his current practice as a licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. James Sterling is an assistant clinical professor with Mount Sinai Medical School’s Department of Psychiatry.
