James Hairston is a skillful litigator with over two decades of experience in the legal field.

James’ Legal career began when he entered the North Carolina Central University School of Law in 1987. He completed his education in 1990 and earned his Juris Doctorate. That same year, James Hairston was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar Association. He soon returned to North Carolina and gained admittance to the North Carolina Bar in 1993.

There, he joined the law firm of Michaux and Michaux, Practicing Attorneys of Durham, North Carolina. This firm is a well-respected bankruptcy firm, and James Hairston served as an associate of the firm for almost two years.

After gaining experience and finding himself as a lawyer, James separated from the firm of Michaux and Michaux and sought to open his own firm as a solo practitioner. He practiced in a small office based in Durham, North Carolina for almost a decade.

In 2005, he found he was interested in growing his success for himself and others, and he joined forces with Rob Lane and Anthony Brannon to form the firm of Hairston Lane Brannon.

His current practice is Hairston Lane PA, formerly known as Hairston Lane Brannon, located in Raleigh, North Carolina. The practice’s name comes from James Hairston, Robert J. Lane III, and the late Anthony Brannon. Brannon’s unfortunate passing in 2010 left Hairston and Lane as the surviving partners of the firm. Since then, the two lawyers have continued in his honor, performing their legal duties with skill and finesse.

James Hairston’s primary practice areas are Civil Litigation, Employment Law, and Business Litigation. He is licensed to practice before all federal courts in NC, as well as the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals.

In addition to his practice, James Hairston is a member of multiple legal organizations, including The NC Bar association, the Durham County Bar Association, and the George H. White Bar Association. Additionally, he is a member of the NC Advocates for Justice, a nonpartisan association of legal professionals dedicated to protecting people’s rights through community, education, and advocacy.
