James (Jim) Hicks

Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, Japan

I am currently an adjunct faculty member at five universities in and around Kitakyushu, Japan. I have a B.A. in International Affairs from George Washington University, an M.A. in International Relations from Salve Regina University, and an M.L.I.S. in Library and Information Science from San Jose State University.

My current research interests include cross-cultural approaches to information literacy instruction, the value of critical thinking skills in higher education, and the evolution of academic librarian skill sets in Japan, the U.S. and Canada. My recently completed thesis project on the impact of research and publication experience on entry-level hiring at academic libraries in the U.S. received the Outstanding Thesis Award from the San Jose State University School of Information.

My personal interests include reading, travel, film, hiking and philosophy.
