James was born in Nairobi, Kenya to a community fraught with different social challenges which included poverty, crime and drug, and substance abuse.
His experiences as a young person led to a desire for social change: he followed this pursuit through joining one-stop youth center in Nairobi as a volunteer and later on joined hands with a group of friends to start Dagoretti Youth Development Organization, a youth-led community organization.
James moved to Canada in 2006 and by 2008 founded Youth Initiative Canada a youth-serving nonprofit organization that empowered youth through sports, education & entrepreneurship.
James has been featured as a speaker in multiple development conferences in Canada which include Engaging Diaspora in development series that was organized by Simon Fraser University, global development week organized by the University of British Columbia.
James work has been featured in different media outlets in Canada and Kenya which include Afro News, Coop Radio, Georgia straight & CTV in Canada and also KBC, Standard newspaper, NTV $ KTN news in Kenya.
Through his, work James has been nominated to multiple community service awards and he is humbled to be the recipient of 2011 Canadian living ME TO WE award for social action presented to him by Canadian Living Magazine and Free the Children. James is also a recipient of Queen Elizabeth 2 diamond jubilee medal for community service.
In June 2018 James decided to move his family back home in Kenya, James is married to Janine Kamau and have 3 beautiful kids.
James continues to follow his passion to meaningfully engage and empower youth in Africa through sport, education & entrepreneurship, through a social enterprise he started Beyond Hoops Africa.
James also runs a digital marketing agency and is a blockchain technology supporter and is working on crypto for social responsibility (CSR) program to partner with crypto companies to support sustainable development in Africa.
