James Schaller

James Schaller C.M.P. is a clinical musician, composer, and consultant who is trained to deliver music at the bedside in medical situations. He lectures to medical teams and caregiver organizations on the use of music to reduce pain and anxiety and support recovery, and his work has grown to inspire families on how to manage their sound and media environments.
As the creator of The Healer’s Visit, James mentors thousands of volunteers in hospices, hospitals, churches, nursing homes and community service organizations in the therapeutic use of recorded and live music. His original music has been used in medical facilities throughout the world to reduce pain and anxiety and bring peace to patients and families.
As a sound designer and consultant James helps medical facilities of all sizes create custom, intentional sound environments that serve both staff and patients.
James and his partner, Maria Del Rey, have produced a series of family video and music titles that have won the Parent’s Choice Gold and Silver Awards, a Latin Grammy Nomination, Amazon.com’s Top Ten Children’s Award, a Carnegie Foundation Grant and the National Association of Parenting Publications Gold Award.
Maria and James, created The ChildGood Academy to provide parenting tools for freelance creatives with children in the formative years. They publish ChildGood Magazine The Journal for Creative Families on Apple Apps and Google Play. They also create The Healers Visit podcasts, web video series The Maria Del Rey Show, therapeutic and family music recordings and live concert and seminar events.
James plays a custom 19-string harp guitar built by San Francisco luthier Alan Perlman.
