James Torpey first became interested in pursuing a career in finance after touring an investment management firm in Boston. Those at the firm were able to show James how calculus, a class he enjoyed, actually was a practical skill in the real world.

While traveling abroad, James Torpey was able to witness the disparities in wealth between the United States and many of the countries that he sparked his interest in International Business. James Torpey was inspired to learn about the factors influencing these economic disparities in his studies.

James Torpey is currently working on his Finance and International Business degree in the Greater Boston Area. He has focused his studies in the areas of history, economics, defense, trade, business relationships, politics and Spanish. James Torpey is eager to apply his finance and international business background with an investment management firm upon graduation.

During his free time, James Torpey enjoys traveling and experiencing different cultures around the world.

James Torpey’s favorite places to travel have been the “Riviera Maya” in Mexico and Ireland. He has been to each location at least 5 times, and plans to go much more in the future. James Torpey usually travels to Mexico during the winter to take advantage of the warm climate and beautiful beaches during New England’s tough winter months.

James has been fortunate to be able to watch the village “Playa del Carmen” grow and flourish over the years. When he first began traveling here, there were only a handful of hotels and restaurants and the main area to congregate known as “5th Ave” was only about ¼ mile long. It has grown quite a bit since, with a large number of hotels, restaurants, shopping, clubs and “5th Ave” seems to go on for a couple of miles.

When traveling to Ireland, James Torpey spends his time in Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Galway and Cork. A majority of his time has been in the city of Waterford, staying in the family home where his grandfather was born, with his cousins, aunts and uncles living in Ireland.
