James Coane was born and raised in Los Angeles. He received his BA in Architecture from Cal Poly Pomona and has been a licensed architect in the State of California since 1994. Prior to starting his own firm, Mr. Coane worked for Raymond Steinberg and Associates Structural Engineers, Danny & Spunt Architects, and Robert L. Fowler Architect on a large variety of custom residential, multi-family residential, and various commercial projects.

James gained an appreciation for the beautiful indigenous modern architecture of Rudolph Schindler, Richard Neutra, and Craig Ellwood he often encountered during his teenage years of skateboarding in the empty swimming pools of the Hollywood Hills and the Santa Monica mountains.

When he later moved to Pasadena to be closer to his college, he then acquired an additional deep appreciation and inspiration from the historical architecture of Wallace Neff, Paul Williams, Reginald Johnson, and Sylvanus Marston and found these architects work, though different, just as architecturally contextual and interesting as some of his early Modern heroes.

Mr. Coane continues to work in various architectural styles.

As a lifelong Angelino, James enjoys hobbies and activities offered by the pleasant Los Angeles climate and local amenities such as surfing, bicycling, and hiking in the mountains with his Australian Shepherds
