I am currently entering my 3rd academic year in the Space Engineering program at the Lassonde School of Engineering. Space exploration has always been a lifelong interest; thetechnology involved in this field continues to push the envelope on what humankindis capable of.
Lassonde’s engineering program follows the path of theRenaissance Engineer, this means it incorporates a multitude of skills andknowledge across various disciplines inside and outside of engineering. The opportunity to learn skills such as entrepreneurship in a global environment will allow me to better apply my scientific knowledge towards solving real world issues. This levelof diversification coupled with Space Engineering is what attracted me to theprogram.
During a previous summer, I went on a one month trip to Nepal. For the first two weeks, I volunteeredat the DHC New Life Centre Nepal, an orphanage for the disabled located inKathmandu. This was an extraordinary experience that allowed me to cross bothlanguage and cultural barriers. Following the two weeks of volunteering, I wenton a 14 day trek from Lukla to Mount Everest Base Camp in the Khumbu region ofNepal. This was not only a test of strength and endurance, but an outstandingexperience to see a world and lifestyle vastly different from my own.
