Jamie Derrieux

I am currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree from the Monfort College of Business at the University of NOrthern Colorado, with an emphasis in Marketing. I am also a member of the Women's Basektball team at UNCo. I am passionate about learning and plan to continue my education in graduate school, in the Sport Administration field. I will graduate with my Bachelors degree in December of 2015, and plan to apply for graduate school immediately following this.

Over the past 3 years as a Student-Athlete at Northern Colorado, I have worked side-by-side with excellent staff members who sparked my interest in the Sport Administration and Marketing fields. I have had the unique opportunity to see the daily operations behind running an entire Athletic Department, and that has made me realize the passion I have for both athletics and business. Sports Marketing and Sports Administration is the perfect intersection of those two interests.

Being a Division 1 athlete has taught me about the importance of preparation, time management, perseverance, work ethic, and managing relationships with my teammates during difficult times. The development of these skills, combined with the knowledge acquired during my Business Marketing education, have prepared me to thrive within the Sports Marketing realm.

I have had many opportunities to be a leader throughout my educational experience, such as being Student Body President of my high school and a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee at the University of Northern Colorado. These situations have allowed me to speak in front of large groups of people, learn how to motivate team members, delegate responsibilites, and create positive change in whatever organization I am involved with.

I truly believe that athletics provide a unique opportunity for people to be empowered and work for something they can see direct rewards from. In the business world, they are seemingly endless possibilities for athletes and teams to gain a competitive advantage, and I want to help them do that.
