Jamie Wagg

Jamie Wagg first gained public attention whilst exhibiting in the 1994 Whitechapel Open and has since exhibited, with a diverse practice, in Germany, France, Austria, Korea and the USA. Lecturing at, among others; The Institute of Advanced Studies, PRINCETON, New Jersey and Claremont, Los Angeles, USA. Goldsmiths, Leeds University, Bristol and Middlesex Universities in the UK. Wagg's practice is one of a critical engagement with notions of "History" and "History Painting". From the abduction and murder of James Bulger and the use of surveillance as 'History' gathering (see CTRL[space], Rhetorics of Surveillance from Bentham to Big Brother, edited by Thomas Y Levin. MIT Press 2002). To the building of a 1:1 scale Boeing B-52 Stratofortress as a monochrome (Disasters of War) 'painting' ("Full Spectrum Dominance", 'No One Ever Dies There'. Dortmund, GERMANY). Wagg's more recent work has been the delivery of narratives through add-hoc performance-lectures (Entanglement Histories-"From Einstein's Pollen, to Flower Power"), recently delivered at Pomona College, Claremont Los Angeles, USA. Exploring the intertwined (Entanglement) 'Histories' of Atomic (Quantum) Theory, electro-magnetism, volume, solid bodied electric guitars and the Boeing B-52, as cultural history drivers.
