Several months ago, I made the decision to start selling my artwork. The first thing your mind comes to when I say “artwork” is a painting on a canvas or a portrait on a piece of paper, but I consider my artwork to be more fashionable than that. I create custom made denim artwork.
About a year ago I was made to take an art class for high school. I consider myself to be pretty creative but not an artist in any way. One of our assignments for the class was to create artwork out of any article of clothing, with such a broad assignment I had no idea what to do, so I went onto Pinterest and saw hand painted denim jackets. At that time, it was almost like an explosion of so many ideas coming into my head. That’s when I decided I was going to paint on the back of my best friends’ jacket.
After I saw the amazing turnout of the denim jacket, I was astonished that I was able to create artwork that I was actually proud of. My best friend posted her newly painted jacket on her social media and within the hour I was getting several messages asking if I could make them custom denim jackets. At this point I was working all day and night after school painting numerous denim jackets for people all across the county. I took most of my time and effort, but I was so proud of what I was creating that I did not care. I never dreamed that I was capable of what I had accomplished.
