Jane Adkins Schmitt
South Carolina
Jane graduated from Clemson University with a BA in English and Journalism. After writing for small town newspapers in Greenville, SC and York County, she set her sights higher, about 35,000 feet higher and became a flight attendant with Piedmont Airlines. Her confident and upbeat personality led to many requests to have her crew charters for musical groups, film crews, and sports teams. When the company merged with UsAirways, Jane was presented with the ruby of excellent service award.
Moving to the Lowcountry in the 1990's, Jane quickly became involved with the Melrose Company and was a resourceful liaison between Daufuskie Island and the mainland.
After 16 years of globe trotting , Jane settled down in the artsy , eclectic river town of Bluffton and became the assistant to the Director of the Heyward House Visitors center. Chairing festivals and giving tours of the quirky little town with its own "State Of Mind" led to her involvement with many Bluffton festivals and the Hilton Head Island Celebrity Golf Tournament.
She partnered with Coastal Living and Cottage Living magazines to manage several of their Idea Homes in the exclusive community of Palmetto Bluff.
Jane spent 5 years as a member of the Krewe of Saturn, an imaginative Mardi GRAS organization, and helped coordinate the Extravaganza activities for the super Krewe of Endymion and the Baton Rogue Yats. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
Jane now dedicates her time to raising awareness for those affected by Congenital Heart Defects. Her family has been featured on the Children's Miracle Network, publications for the American Heart Association, and several public service announcements for the Lowcountry Heartwalk. She's also a grassroots and media advocate for the Mid-Atlantic Affiliate of the American Heart Association.
She enjoys kayaking, sandbar soirees, gardening, traveling and most of all being the social secretary for her 10 year old daughter.
