Janela Ente
Soprano and Voice teacher
I am Janela Ente, a 4th-year vocal performance student at the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music, studying under Asst. Prof. Thea Prosia. I am currently the president of The Liturgikon Vocal Ensemble under Mr. Anthony Go Villanueva, where I continue to grow as a musician and leader.
My journey in music started in grade 5 when I joined the Pasig Catholic College Children’s Choir under Sir Bert Edades. Through this choir, I competed in national choral competitions which fueled my passion for singing and performance. In grade 10, I joined The Madz Schola Cantorum, a music training program funded by the alumni of The Philippine Madrigal Singers under Sir Mark Carpio. It helped me develop my skills in voice, music theory, conducting, and piano playing while participating in prestigious events such as Madz et. al, CCP’s 50th Anniversary Gala, and Alice Reyes’Carmina Burana.
As I progressed in my studies, I found myself drawn not only to performance but also to teaching and conducting. In my third year, I had the opportunity to conduct in my History of Music course and my senior’s pedagogy class, which gave me an idea of what it's like to guide other musicians. In July 2024, I led my first choral workshop, an important moment that reaffirmed my passion for teaching.
Despite my love for music, I have struggled with embracing my own voice, often feeling the pressure to perfect every solo performance. However, this journey has helped me realize that music is not just about technical excellence, but is also about expression, connection, and growth. Teaching allows me to help others find confidence in their own voices just as I continue to discover mine.
Now, I am dedicated to mentoring and sharing my knowledge, helping singers develop not only their skills but also their artistry and self-assurance. Whether in performance or teaching, my goal is to make music a space where others can find their own unique voices and embrace them with confidence.
