Jane Sutter Brandt grew up hanging out in the 1960s-70s at her family’s flagship pharmacy on busy Jefferson Street in downtown Burlington, Iowa, and worked as a soda jerk there in high school. Her father, two uncles, and grandfather all worked as pharmacists, and her siblings and cousins all held their first jobs there. Sutter Brandt grew up to become an award-winning journalist, writing about a wide range of issues for newspapers, magazines, and websites around the country. Most recently she held a variety of high-level leadership positions at The Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester, N.Y., including managing editor and deputy editorial page editor. Sutter Brandt is the author of "Sutter's Sodas Satisfy: A Memoir of 90 Years of Sutter Drug Co."
