I'm a journalist with experience in newspaper, radio and Internet since 1990, except for four years when I was a quality improvement manager for VITAS Healthcare Corporation in San Antonio. Texas. I'm a local editor for AOL/Huffington Post's Patch.com, and assistant city editor for The Capital daily newspaper in Annapolis. At The Pittsburgh-Tribune Review I was a municipal and county governments reporter as well as boards of education reporter. As a senior reporter for The Dominion Post, I covered the statehouse beat in West Virginia during Gov. Bob Wise's final year in office, and for Gov. Joe Manchin's election, inauguration and first two years in office. I covered courts, police, municipal and county government. And the Sago Mine Disaster in 2006. I've also worked at the following daily newspapers: The San Antonio Light The Wheeling News Register The Lawton Constitution I wrote stories for a military newspaper, The Cannoneer, at Lawton, Okla., for The Paisano student newspaper at the University of Texas at San Antonio, and did internships for WOAI Newsradio in San Antonio and for KSWO TV in Lawton. As media relations director for the Modern Pentathlon Association, an Olympic sport, I coordinated journalists from throughout the world in covering events such as two World Championships and The Olympic Festival. For KLAW Radio, I was an announcer for the Olympic Festival during a Coca-Cola News Radio Network event. As entertainment editor for the multimedia company "The News of Texas. I previewed festivals, rodeos and concerts for "Texas To Do"--an internet website I helped develop, and weekly informed listeners of The News of Texas Radio about events throughout the state. I've covered business, airplane crashes, the Sago Mine disaster in 2006, elections and inaugurations, West Virginia University, hospitals, as well as health and scientific research. On the side, I've worked as a swim coach for the YMCA, and currently as a swim instructor at Lifetime Fitness in Columbia, MD. Janet graduated with a degree in English and a concentration in German language from the University of Texas at San Antonio, after attending West Virginia University for two years where she was a varsity swimmer. She did graduate work in English Communication Studies at St. Mary's University in San Antonio. Her son, LT. Justin Messenger, is a 2009 West Point grad who has served a tour in Iraq, is stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, and is headed for a tour in North Korea.
