I am Professor of Philosophy at San José State University, engaged in teaching and research at the intersection of epistemology and ethics. My interests include responsible conduct of scientific research, communication between scientists and non-scientists about the issues that matter to both camps, and effective strategies for teaching science and ethics.

My philosophical engagement with these topics is informed by my misspent scientific youth, which included a Ph.D. in physical chemistry and research experiences in biomedical laboratories, and by ongoing conversations with working scientists in a variety of fields.

I have created and conducted responsible conduct of research training sessions for a variety of audiences. Feel free to contact me to help your organization talk about ethics in a way that supports your scientific mission and your community of practice.
