Janice Green Cooper Janice Green Cooper was born in Houston, Texas on August 22 to Melvin and Jessie Green and is the fifth of nine siblings. Her desire to sing had its humble beginnings as a young girl in her church youth choir and school glee club. She attended Houston area schools – participated in sports (volleyball) - graduating from Kashmere High School in 1973. Janice honed her song writing skills through poetry and local recognition of her talent resulted in her writing songs for local artists and performances at weddings, conferences and gospel showcases. Janice’s charismatic voice and deliberate passion penned in each song makes every melody personal to those who have the opportunity to hear her sing. As a performer, Janice stays true to her Gospel/Christian roots as an active member of the Mass Choir at Southwest Community-The Bridge under the leadership of Pastor Gregg Patrick and Minister of Music Shawn McLemore, where she has been a member since 1992. Janice garnished rave reviews for her portrayal of legendary singer Etta James where she performed the trademark tune “At Last” in a musical production at a local dinner theater. She was also a runner-up in the Ebony/Jet/Pine Sol "Women Making A Difference through Song" contest held in Houston in 2008 and participated in Pastor Gregg Patrick's Bridge Mass Choir project "Crossover". Janice also performed one of her original songs during one of the Bobby Jones New Artist Showcases held in New Orleans. Her past CD projects, “Reflections of A Survivor” and “Just Praising God” were well received locally and because of her desire and vision that involves protecting and improving the future of all children and providing financial and educational assistance for children in need of basic care, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of any of her CDs is donated to help in these efforts Janice’s latest CD project debuting in 2014 entitled “God Is Pleased With My Praise” is a combination of contemporary, traditional, and old school gospel sounds. She wrote nine of the ten tracks and also serves as producer. Janice is currently completing her first novel “JC’s Dream”. She has dedicated her music and novel to her late husband Michael who lost his battle with cancer in 2006. Janice has two adult children and continues to reside in Houston.
