Janine Koldyk
Teacher, Mother, and Student in North Vancouver
Hi, I’m Janine. I’m a teacher living in North Vancouver. I am a fan of dogs, education, and the outdoors. I also like skiing, volunteering, and traveling (or at least I used to).
During the week, you can find me working part-time as a TTOC in the independent system and the public system. I am on a leave of absence this year from my typical job teaching Grade 6 at a large independent school in Vancouver (700 students K-8). I graduated from UBC with a Bachelors of Education (Elementary) with a concentration in special education.
Days that I'm not working as a TTOC, you can find me walking my dog or bringing her to run errands with me. She's a black lab puppy, who is a PADS dog (Pacific Assistance Animal Society) and one day will (hopefully) be an assistance dog. We are her puppy raisers and trainers. She will go to advanced training in about a year from now.
I also spend a lot of time driving my daughter to her activities (soccer, ballet, karate, skating). Her social calendar is more exciting than mine!
My husband is a local, small business owner, so he has been very busy during the pandemic. I took this year off to take some pressure off of him at home and work on my diploma in special education through Queen's. Perhaps, one day, I will work as a Learning Support Teacher. It has been nice to be home more this September, although I miss my students.
