JANIS HUTCHINSON
author in Everett, Washington
Welcome to my about me page!
I am an award-winning author of fiction and nonfiction, appearing on Christian radio and TV shows, and awarded "Writer of the Year" (2008) by the American Christian Writers Association.
As a former Mormon of 35 years, after serving two local missions, marrying a former missionary in the temple, and sending a daughter on a full-time mission, I secretly joined a Mormon Fundamentalist group in 1978. You can read my story of how the group held me prisoner for 9 months in a small room after they discovered me sneaking away to a Christian church. Ordered to renounce the Christian Jesus, I refused. Conditions were such that I nearly died, but with God's help I escaped.
Details of the above are in my story, "Escape From the Cult," on my blog at wwwjanishutchinson.blogspot.com (no dot after the www). I also post articles on Christianity and because of reader demand, on Mormonism, showing its contrast to biblical Christianity.
In 1980, I graduated from International Bible College in San Antonio, Texas, earning a B.th in Theology and as Valedictorian of my class; then went on to the University to earn an M.A. in Theology, graduating Summa Cum Laude. I also served 12 years as a mentor for the "Institute of Religious Research," a program of mentoring individuals transitioning out of cult-like religions.
Kregel Resources published my first book, "Out of the Cults and Into the Church: Understanding and encouraging ex-cultists;" also my second book, "The Mormon Missionaries: An inside look at their real message and methods," including a Spanish version for distribution in Latin America.
I self-published a second edition of "The Mormon Missionaries," with links listed on my blog for the paperback, kindle, nook and iTune versions.
In 2016, I published "Unfinished Justice," my debut historical suspense novel, inspired by a true story. Presently, I am working on a nonfiction book targeted for Christian parents and grandparents that has a unique viewpoint differing from the many books published on the subject.
Since my withdrawal from the LDS Church, I am active in my local Christian church. Widowed twice, I am the mother of three, all of whom have come to personal faith in Christ.
Throughout the years, until my retirement in 2008, my secular employment was working as legal assistant for an attorney.
