Janni Aragon, PhD
Director, Assistant Professor, and Mentor
I am an American ex pat living in lovely Victoria on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. Prior to this, San Diego, CA was my home. I live with my family just minutes from the University of Victoria (UVIC), where I am the Director Technology Integrated Learning.
I am one of the four co-founders for Breathe Now. Our conference took place in Victoria, BC in 2012. The conference was geared for college aged women through women established in their careers. My hope is to coordinate a Breathe Now reading group.
I was an Undergraduate Advisor in my home department for five years and enjoyed mentoring students. I teach the following courses: Gender and Politics, Gender and International Politics, Worlds of Politics, Feminist Political Thought, Youth Politics, Politics and Popular Culture, American Politics, and American Public Policy. For the next two years, I am the Chair of the Academic Women’s Caucus at UVIC. I am the past President of the Caucus for Women and Gender Justice with the Western Political Science Association.
As you can surmise from this page, I am a feminist and one of my areas of expertise is Gender. I am a contributing writer to the University of Venus and our posts run on Insider Higher Education. I also have my own blog on Wordpress and am a guest blogger on other blogs. I blog regularly for the Globe and Mail, too.
I am available to speak to community groups about issues related to gender, politics, American politics, feminisms, social media, higher education, and popular culture. I've given presentations about Social Media, Technology, Pedagogy, Young Adult Literature and Politics, and more. Email me for more information at jaragon at uvic dot ca
