Connor Jarvie
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Cinematographer, photographer, director, scriptwriter. These are a few of the words that best describe Connor Jarvie. From a young age, an interest in visual arts fueled his desire to create and to perfect his own work. Time and practice have shaped and molded an unrefined creativity into a honed precision tool of artistic beauty. While his skillset is diverse, it is photography that is arguably his most developed weapon of choice.
Jarvie is no stranger to the concepts of cinematography and photography and the similarities between the two. It is his intuitive grasp of the subtle nuances of these two art forms that allows him to draw influence from both worlds to fuel his own creative process. From the realm of cinematography comes influence in the form of Fabian Wagner, Hoyte van Hotema, and Andrew Lesnie, to name a few. Combining these styles of photography in motion and fusing them into the art of still shots, Jarvie masterfully captures the beauty of both static and mobile subjects. His proficiency in many specific styles of photography is prevalent, but the most beautiful of his works are undoubtedly his vividly detailed close-ups and, in an interesting contrast, in his extreme wide shots. Though these two areas of the craft are indeed his most powerful and captivating, his skill saturates the entire spectrum of photography. One would be hard pressed to find a Jarvie photograph that did not satisfy the eye, and most are pleasantly rewarded in a stimulation that supercedes the visual: it is the stimulation of the soul.
