Jas Uppal, a passionate educator, presently teaches in the Surrey School District. Currently, she is involved in developing interdisciplinary curriculum for a new blended learning program at her school, while pursuing a Doctorate in Education at Simon Fraser University (SFU), specializing in teacher education and international education.
Prior to her current position, Jas worked in teacher development at the university and school district level. She served as a Faculty Associate at SFU for five years within the Education Faculty’s Professional Qualification Program and the International Teacher Education Module in India. Both programs involved intercultural bridging for re-certifying and pre-service teachers. During this time Jas was also a Sessional Instructor, focusing on science education.
Prior to her work at SFU, she was involved in a United Kingdom based nation-wide educational reform initiative. She was required to play a dual role as the Science Education and Formative Assessment Consultant for a London-based school district over 5 years. She was able to directly apply this experience to her graduate work at the University of London (Institute of Education).
Upon her return to BC, Jas completed her Masters thesis by bridging her experience in educational change and formative assessment practices with literature in teacher change. Her commitment to bridging practice with research continues to transform her practice through her doctoral studies and her involvement in ongoing teacher inquiry.
