Jasmine Mares
Student and Teacher in Riverside, California
Hello there! I am currently a junior at Chapman University, studying Integrated Education in hopes to become an elementary school teacher. I have a passion for working with students, and I am employed as an AVID Tutor at Norco Intermediate School. There, I lead student tutorial groups in presenting mini-lessons and assist teachers in grading assignments and evaluating class performance. I am excited to have a classroom of my own once I graduate and utilize these skills.
I consider education to be a form of empowerment and believe teachers should help develop well-rounded people rather than simply well-rounded students. In my opinion, this looks like providing content knowledge per state standards but also cultivating social-emotional learning in nurturing environments. Along with collaborating for class assignments, I would love to dedicate daily time for my students to practice mindfulness and have intentional conversations that stem beyond academic discussion. I want to remember they are not just pupils but individuals.
These two years cannot pass soon enough, but I feel confident my schooling is continuing to prepare me for the rewards of teaching. Should you have any questions or simply want to connect, please feel free to contact me at [email protected]. I will be sure to get back to you within a day.
