When I was a little girl, my history enthusiast dad would quiz my sisters and I on all the countries and their capitals. He treated it like a game show, complete with buzzers, prizes, and its own theme song that changed according to our mood. Nowadays I not only have a knowledge of world geography that serves me best in trivia, but I also have a thirst to learn and the creativity that makes that experience interesting wherever the venue. I like to think that I also held on to some of that imagination especially as I move and grow through life. Born and raised in Chesterfield, Virginia, I moved to snowy Ithaca, New York to purse my degree in Information Science at Cornell University. As an undergraduate, I specialized in social systems and human computer interaction design, a dynamic area that is constantly changing and making interesting strides in accommodating the masses when it comes to the design of technology. I extended this study to an international level when I decided to study abroad at the University of Edinburgh for a semester focused on Informatics. During this time, I got to discuss how social norms in different countries shape the technologies that are developed and popularized in certain regions of the world. I also strengthened by voice as an African American woman contributing to the design and progress of technology and making sure that no one is left behind.
On the more social side of school, I was an active participant in the performance community as a member of the step team, gospel choir and an a Capella group. After graduation, I moved again to Boston, Massachusetts to start my career as a Technical Solutions Engineer at Oracle. I'm passionate about community service, technology, innovation, and design and I can't wait to grow in my career.
