Jasmin Singh
Elizabeth City, North Carolina
I'm a junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill studying journalism, with a focus on medical and science writing. Here are some of the things I do:
I'm a senior writer at the city desk for the school's award-winning independent newspaper The Daily Tar Heel. I cover the governments, people, and businesses of Orange County. This year I have been focusing on the area's developments and what is next for the town of Chapel Hill.
I'm a health and science correspondent for Carolina Week, the school's weekly news broadcast. The show runs on Time Warner cable and can be seen in 17 counties, as well as on our website and on YouTube. I cover new research in the Triangle area and recent issues in the science community.
I'm a pre-medical student and a member of the Carolina Pre-Medical Association. I am also a member of the group's shadowing committee, where I help to interview and pair students with doctors for shadowing at UNC Hospitals.
Outside of all of this, I tend to either be chasing a story (making so many phone calls that my parents begin to question my phone bill), or piled under textbooks that will either break or make my medical career. Oh, and I also dabble in film and photography (as the photo to your left shows)!
