Jason Birch started learning about live audio/video productions when he was twelve, starting off running a sound board and making live music recordings at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in his hometown Rockford, Illinois. The next year, creative direction shifted from vocal performance to exploring sound tech and video journalism at various Rockford Public Schools events. Beginning experiences include: RPS annual All-City Musicals, live broadcast of district board meetings, news studio stream-casting, video editing, and classic film analysis.
Helping out with high school media productions through the Creative and Performing Arts Program expanded to more artistic expressions through modern dance, stage management, lighting design, acting, and set construction.
Now, he is using these technical skills in a place where A/V technologies and high definition digital design are scarce, in rural Vermont. He discovers faculty members who are excited to collaborate with students on digital filmmaking, and have sponsored him to teach editing tutorials, open to the community, at the school library. Jason is making a name for himself by making collaborative video projects more visible and tied into class assignments at his small Environmental Liberal Arts college.
Jason Birch is a Junior at Green Mountain College studying Communication Studies with concentrations in Renewable Energy/Ecological Design and Sustainable Business.
