I am an ecosystem ecologist broadly interested in the flow of carbon, nutrients and energy through ecosystems. Much of my work focuses on soil carbon and greenhouse gas cycling in wetland ecosystems.
Ongoing projects include a collaboration at SPRUCE, a large-scale, ecosystem level climate manipulation in a bog in northern Minnesota. I am also working on projects exploring the importance of humic reduction as a microbial respiratory pathway in peatland soils. Closer to home, I am interested in understanding carbon storage and greenhouse gas fluxes in southern Californian salt marsh ecosystems in the context of global change.
I am currently an Assistant Professor at Chapman University's School of Earth and Environmental Sciences where I teach courses in Environmental Science and Ecosystem Ecology. I also engage a number of undergraduate students in my research laboratory at Chapman.
