Jason Egly
Educator and Entrepreneur in Nashville, Tennessee
“I learned this, at least, by my experiment; that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours." -- Henry David Thoreau
For Jason, the journey toward "advancing in the direction of his dreams" has led him through a wide variety of unexpected places.
At 13, he signed a contract with Curb Records as part of the country band Six Shooter that also included Gabe Dixon. After minimal success and maximum frustration, Jason walked away from Music Row to attend the University of Tennessee.
After a trip to the Dominican Republic playing beisbol with impoverished youth, he returned home and pursued a Master's Degree in education. Upon graduating, he became a 5th grade teacher in an inner-city elementary school.
Soon thereafter, Jason accepted an offer to be the Associate Director of a non-profit organization that mentors at-risk middle school kids. Jason began a path that led him to receive his Master of Divinity degree. His family adopted two little girls from Ethiopia and learned that true Life is not about comfort, but sacrifice. He quit his job and moved back to Music Row to start Ekklesia -- an entrepreneurial community of faith in Nashville.
Being back in Music City allowed him to use his gifts to develop young artists, producing & writing on projects such as Matt Brock's full-length album, From the Land of Shadows, and Tirzah Payne's upcoming EP.
In addition, having three children in Metro Schools re-kindled his passion for a high-quality education for every child, and after four years with Ekklesia, he went back into the classroom. He has taught in public, public charter, and private schools, in addition to having taught adjunct undergraduate education courses. In 2017, he opened his own insurance agency (http://farmersagent.com/jegly) and is a vocal advocate for high-quality education in Nashville. He still enjoys helping young couples get a strong start, spending many weekends officiating weddings.
Jason is passionate about social justice, building community, and educational equity. He loves to equip others to use their gifts and talents to make a difference in the world.
